whistle-blowing policy

SHARE YOUR CONCERNS WITH US

The purpose of this whistle-blowing policy is to provide a framework for WEFC staff, members and the general public to, in confidence, report concerns about possible wrong-doing or improprieties with the assurance that they will be protected from victimisation for whistle-blowing in good faith. This policy aims to create a culture of transparency, accountability, and integrity within our church community. By encouraging individuals to come forward with their concerns, we are committed to upholding our values and maintaining the trust of our members.

whistle-blowing committee ("committee")

  1. The Committee will be chaired by a former Board member or Pastor, who will be appointed by the Board.

  2. The Committee will comprise the HRC (Human Resource Committee) Chairperson and the Senior Pastor of WEFC.

  3. If there is a risk of any Committee member having a conflict of interest, whether real or perceived, the Chairman will request that person to be recused.

  4. The Committee can co-opt members with relevant competencies to assist in investigations.

general guidelines for whistle-blowing

a)  Anyone can whistle-blow at any time without fear of retaliation or recrimination.

b)  It is assumed all whistle-blowing is done in good faith based on genuine concerns.

c)  Whistle-blowing is directed at the Board and WEFC Staff members (including missionaries) on matters such as (but not limited to):

  • Financial accounting — fraud, misappropriation of funds, questionable practices

  • Legal matters — violation of the law

  • Ethics — corruption, forgery, bribery, theft, serious misconduct, misappropriation of classified documents

  • Abuse of power — retaliation, harassment, discrimination, misusing church resources for personal gain

  • Immoral conduct — sexual misconduct, cheating

d)  Whistle-blowing does not cover general complaints and grievances over service quality, ministry deficiency, operational matters, policies and the private conduct of individuals. Such matters should be taken up with pastoral and ministry leaders.

disclosures & information

  1. WEFC encourages whistle-blowers to include their contact details in their submission to facilitate investigation. Concerns expressed anonymously are more difficult to act upon effectively, but they may be considered, after taking into account the seriousness and credibility of the issue raised and the likelihood of confirming the allegation from attributable sources and information provided.

  2. The identity of the whistle-blower will be kept strictly confidential, except where disclosure is required by law or necessary for investigation purposes and consent for disclosure has been obtained.

  3. The whistle-blower should provide specific information such as names of parties involved, places, dates, times and descriptions of alleged wrongdoings.

  4. Other relevant evidence should be provided where possible to assist in investigations, e.g. pictures, documents, emails, text messages, etc.
